چکیده

Abstract Impacts of climate warming on forests vigour are forecasted to increase in magnitude. Yet it remains unclear how stand characteristics and competition modulate the relationship between tree growth gross primary production with drought. Here, we studied spatial variation density, basal area height modulates (Basal Area Increment, BAI growth), summer NDVI, as well their responses drought (Standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index, SPEI) 56 Aleppo pine ( Pinus halepensis Mill.) planted located Northeast Spain. Long-term SPEI were strongly determined by suggesting that Along this, NDVI also displayed strong associations SPEI. was mostly related growth, canopy densification drives pattern trends. Short-term severe droughts mainly independent characteristics. In region, is a universal factor limiting secondary greening. However, results suggest density long-term, reducing densest stands. Denser stands larger trees ones present higher values, activity depends more coverage than rate its response these Mediterranean pines, temporally coupled but spatially decoupled.

Post-Fire Seedling Recruitment and Morpho-Ecophysiological Responses to Induced Drought and Salvage Logging in Pinus halepensis Mill. Stands

Salvage logging is the commonest post-fire emergency action, but has unclear ecological effects. In the Mediterranean Basin, drought periods and fire regimes are changing and forest management should be adapted. In summer 2009, a mid-high severity fire burned 968 ha of Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis Mill.) forest in southeast Spain, which was submitted to salvage logging six months later. In spr...

Aggregated Cones in Pinus Halepensis

Aggregated female cones were found in 192 Pinus halepensis trees growing in 54 populations in Israel, in habitats of vastly differing ecological conditions. All of these trees also carried normal (1-5 in a whorl) female cones. The number of aggregates per tree varied from one to several dozen. Some of the trees formed aggregates every year, after the first year of aggregate formation, while oth...

Drought Tolerance in Pinus halepensis Seed Sources As Identified by Distinctive Physiological and Molecular Markers

Drought is one of the main constraints determining forest species growth, survival and productivity, and therefore one of the main limitations for reforestation or afforestation. The aim of this study is to characterize the drought response at the physiological and molecular level of different Pinus halepensis (common name Aleppo pine) seed sources, previously characterized in field trials as d...

Evaluation of rangeland gross primary productivity sensitivity potential to drought using ecosystem modelling

Gross primary productivity is one of the most important factors in the carbon cycle of terrestrial ecosystems. With global warming increase, the frequent drought events and the specific response of regional vegetation to these changes, it is essential to identify and quantify the relationships between climatic and GPP data in arid region. In this study, the responses of gross primary productivi...
